Karandaaz Capital aims to support the development of a market for MSME financing by deepening access to growth capital for MSMEs that will result in the generation of broad-based employment in Pakistan and financial returns for Karandaaz. Karandaaz makes investments that are categorized into four buckets: Direct Investments, Wholesale Investments, Strategic Investments, and Green Investments. These investments by Karandaaz help develop pilot investment models and identify new investment avenues and generate learning for commercial capital providers.

Position Summary

Karandaaz Pakistan is seeking a Senior Associate for Strategic Investments. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring, reviewing and reporting on the performance and future challenges of KRN’s strategic investments in the financial sector, more specifically, the Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs). Knowledge of microfinance, SME and guarantee companies will be given preference. Support for post deal management to Equity and Green investment teams may also be required.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Undertake investment analyses, including building valuation models for investments in the financial sector in specific and other sectors of the economy as required.
  • Collect and interpret financial, business and sectoral data of Karandaaz’s investee NBFCs, monitor their key performance indicators and provide internal reports to the CIO.
  • Provide direct support to the CIO in governance and technical matters related to strategic investee NBFCs of Karandaaz in the financial and other sectors
  • Advise on the development of product range of the NBFCs which includes SME Lending, Microfinance Wholesale lending, Loan Guarantees and Advisory
  • Monitor portfolio’s ESG matters and make recommendations
  • Monitor, track and report portfolio performance and generate impact reports.
  • Prepare and maintain MIS reports on the financial performance of the overall portfolio on a regular basis.
  • Provide support for submissions to the Investment Committees and the Board
  • Support Equity, Credit and Green investment teams in origination, structuring, execution and post deal management as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the related industries developments and current events
  • Support the CIO in the execution of Board approved strategy of Karandaaz’s investment portfolio
  • Any other task as may be required for delivering the investment team’s annual work plan

Eligibility

Education & Experience

  • Masters level degree preferably in Business, Economics, Accounting or related discipline from a reputable international or Pakistani institution or CFA with strong analytical skills and modeling.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of working in a recognized financial institution.
  • Preference will be given to candidates working in an investment banking institution with skills in financial analysis
  • Experience of working in research teams in a financial institution and/or a brokerage house will be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of a not-for-profit organization
  • Deep understanding of the financial sector and understanding of financial risks facing financial institutions in general
  • Strong grounding and prior professional experience in financial valuation and business analysis
  • Understanding of financial reporting
  • Strong command on oral and written English
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
